Make Your Own Fresh Basil Pesto

Pesto sauce is the popular pasta sauce originates from Genoa, northern Italy. There are many varieties of this sauce; but the original sauce contains several fresh ingredients: fresh basil, freshly grated Parmesan, walnuts or pine nuts, cold pressed olive oil and fresh garlic, salt and black pepper.



Fresh pesto sauce is very versatile and can be used in many recipes such as pasta, sandwiches, different appetizers, over baked potatoes etc. Here is the classic pesto recipe that is done under 15 minutes.

2 cups fresh basil

1/3 cup cold pressed olive oil

1/2 cup walnuts (pine nuts if you prefer)

2 gloves garlic (minced)

1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese

salt&black pepper to taste

Put all the ingredients except the Parmesan cheese into a food processor or a blender and mix well until y0u get a smooth consistency.  Add the fresh Parmesan cheese and mix for 30 seconds more. Serve over pasta or freeze it and keep it in the freezer. If you are freezing the pesto sauce skip the last step and add the Parmesan cheese immediately before serving as the Parmesan doesn’t freeze well.
